The Main-Danube-Lake Constance trail is the primary trail 4, which is tended by the Schwäbischen Albvereins (Swabian Trails & Hiking Association) It leads hikers from Würzburg am Main to Ulm (on the Danube) via the Swabian Jura mountains and onward through Upper Swabia until terminating on the shores of Lake Constance.

The medium difficulty circular trail leads mostly on forest and forest paths in the Bavarian State Forest along the "Illerleite", a densely forested hill range on the eastern side of the Illertal. The Mariensteig between Kellmünz and Altenstadt is a well-laid out footpath, with the help of which the forest slope can be mastered effortlessly. The circular hike is best suited for nature lovers who appreciate the silence and solitude of a forest.

The trail is just 3 km from the campsite.
